Editor’s note: The long-awaited Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will finally kick off tomorrow! The modern Games will get a traditional Chinese twist with various elements of the country’s culture at play. Nearly every element of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, from the mascot and emblem to the flame lantern and cauldron, has something to do with Chinese culture. In these four posters, you’ll see how these elements combine with the dynamism of the winter event.
1. 吉祥物
冰墩墩，熊猫形象与冰晶外壳结合，整体形象酷似航天员，体现冰雪运动和现代科技特点。
雪容融，以大红灯笼为原型, 头顶装饰图案融入剪纸艺术，渲染了中国春节的节日气氛。
2. 会徽
运用中国书法的艺术形态，以汉字“冬”为灵感来源，图形上半部分展现滑冰运动员的造型，下半部分表现滑雪运动员的英姿。
3. 火种灯
设计创意源于2000多年前中国西汉王朝的宫灯——长信灯，长信灯燃灯后可明可暗，有烟无尘，可保持室内空气清新，其环保理念与“绿色冬奥”契合。
4. 火种台
以“承天载物”为设计理念，创意灵感源于中国传统青铜礼器——尊，寓意传承“双奥之城”精神。
